About

About one week after we started, this blog is still having an identity crisis. At the back of our mind we have the ghost of Darren Rowse saying, “What is your niche? What tone of voice will you use? What’s your focus? Niche. Niche. Niche. Do you really think you can blog everything, as in everything, about the Olympics? You can’t beat ESPN, you know.”

And we’re like, “Shut up, Darren. Get away, ghost. Get away from us!”

So having banished the imaginary ghost of Darren, we went “Hmmm, our domain is theolympianblog.com, maybe we should blog about Olympians, you know, those Olympic athletes.”

Awww. Shouldn’t we have known that already? Subconsciously, maybe that is what we wanted to do. But the idea didn’t immediately surface to the “conscious realm” because we spent a lot of time looking for blog templates, header images, and that kind of stuff.

Anyways, after that bit of “enlightenment”, who would come back if not the ghost of Darren. Yes, he just popped back via our Google Reader and he went like, “So who are you blogging about? You should blog about the Aussie Olympians because they’re THE awesome.”

Boy, our enlightened head nearly exploded. Images of the Atlanta Olympic bombings and the Munich massacre popped up and we wanted to reenact those events with the ghost of Darren as our obvious target victim. But then, the Dalai Lama appeared and said, “Calm down, Bill Bilig from the boondocks. Calm down. If I can be calm and composed despite being exiled from Tibet, surely you can be calm too.”

So we went, “Thanks, Dalai Lama. You’re THE awesome.” And we calmly told Darren, “Of course we will blog about the Aussies too. That should be coming soon.”

And so finally, this blog found it’s niche. Kind of.

Edited to add: Of course, just because this blog focuses on Olympians doesn’t mean it’s only about them.

Note on the above edit: If we inked a contract with ourselves, the above edit would be called “the cop-out clause”.
